Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, a nominee of National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has left the government of the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Gbadegesin, according to sources, resigned this week as the Deputy Chief of Staff to Ajimobi.
He was reportedly nominated by Tinubu whom he had served as Special Adviser on Land Reforms between 2003 and 2007 when the APC chieftains as the Lagos State governor.
Gbadegesin was appointed as the Special Adviser on Special Duties and later Commissioner for Health during Ajimobi’s first term.
He was elevated to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff last year.
The resignation of Gbadegesin, who holds a doctorate degree in Neurophysiology, was said to be the culmination of a crisis of confidence in the government.
Gbadegesin was said to have hoped to step into the shoes of the former Deputy Chief of Staff, Bimbo Adekanmbi, who is now the Commissioner of Finance.
Adekanmbi is said to hold a special position among Ajimobi’s aides and was saddled with responsibilities of many commissioners combined as the Chief of Staff.
Gbadegesin was said to have hoped to also hold such a position.
He was disappointed because Adekanbi now combines the special roles with that of Commissioner of Finance.
Inside sources in the Oyo State Government said Gbadesin became frustrated because the office he occupies had become “empty”.
“Dr.Gbadegesin will be here for several weeks without seeing the governor nor see any file pass through his table,” said a source in the Governor’s Office.
Gbadegesin was said to have complained about his treatment in government several times to Tinubu.
The APC Leader was also said to have counselled him to be patient with the governor, promising each time that he would speak with Ajimobi.
Sources close to Dr. Gbadegesin said he concluded to resign because apart from being abandoned in the government, the government was owning him and some others, including commissioners, five months salary.
Some of his friends said he complained that he had exhausted his savings serving the government.
Gbadegesin is the second person to exit Ajimobi’s government in two months.
Tunde Olaniyi, the Special Adviser on Electronic Media, resigned in December.
Government House sources revealed Olaniyi left the government because he said it was becoming untenable for him to defend the government.
Olaniyi had been part of the government since the first term.
