Senior journalists under the umbrella of Northern Media Professionals will on Thursday, bestow the prestigious award of the ‘Next Sardauna’ to wife of the Niger State governor, Hajiya Amina Abubakar Bello.
The award, the media professionals say, is in recognition of her contributions towards women related issues especially on issues relating to reproductive complications and cancer scourge in the state and northern Nigeria in general.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Senior Journalists had two months ago, began the arduous task of searching for the next Sardauna.
This, they said, was predicated on the fact that most leaders from the northern part of the country have paid more attention to themselves rather than the region even though “they owe their positions and fortune to the magnanimity of the late Sardauna, Sir Ahmadu Bello”, 53 years after his passing.
In a statement Wednesday, on behalf of the media professionals, Deputy President Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Malam Suleiman Uba Gaya, said it had become necessary to celebrate leaders who had distinguished themselves in the service of humanity just like the late Sardauna of Sokoto
“we believe there must be someone whose virtues resemble those of the Sardauna, not necessarily in every material respect, but even if substantially so. We cannot know these Sardaunas unless we search for them.
Hajiya Amina Abubakar Bello fits the bill and her proven track record is there for all to see’’ he said
